Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child (PG-IGSSGC)

The University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education, Government of India, invites applications for the Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child (PG-IGSSGC). The scheme aims to promote higher education among single girl children in India by providing financial support for pursuing postgraduate studies.

Objective:
The scholarship seeks to recognize the value of the single girl child in society, encourage families to support her higher education, and promote small family norms.

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must be a citizen of India.
  • The candidate must be the only girl child in the family. (In the case of twin daughters or fraternal daughters with no male sibling, both are eligible.)
  • The candidate must have secured admission in the first year of a regular, full-time, non-professional postgraduate course at a recognized university or institution.
  • The applicant must be below 30 years of age at the time of admission.
  • Students enrolled in distance education or correspondence courses are not eligible.

Scholarship Amount and Duration:

  • The scholarship carries a financial assistance of ₹36,200 per annum per student.
  • The duration of the scholarship is two years only (for the entire postgraduate programme).
  • The amount will be disbursed annually through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Number of Scholarships:
Approximately 3,000 scholarships are awarded every year, subject to availability of funds.

Application Procedure:

  • Eligible candidates must apply through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP): www.scholarships.gov.in.
  • Applicants are required to register, fill in the necessary details, upload the prescribed documents, and submit the application online within the stipulated time.
  • Applications must be verified by the concerned institution.

Required Documents:

  • Aadhaar card or valid identity proof.
  • Proof of admission in the first-year postgraduate course.
  • Joining report in the prescribed format (Annexure I).
  • Affidavit confirming single girl child status (Annexure II).
  • Bank account details (in the name of the student).
  • Birth certificate or Class 10 marksheet as proof of age.

The online application window generally opens in September and closes by October 31 each year. Candidates are advised to visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) website regularly for official updates and exact deadlines.
