Notification: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2026)
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has announced the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. The examination will be conducted under the National Coordination Board (GATE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.
Key Details:
- Organizing Institute: IIT Guwahati
- Application Process: Online registration begins on 25 August 2025 and closes on 25 September 2025 (without late fee). Applications with late fee will be accepted until 6 October 2025.
- Examination Dates: The test will be conducted on 7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026, in computer-based mode across multiple cities, with two sessions per day.
- Subjects Offered: A total of 30 papers covering Engineering, Technology, Science, Commerce, Arts, Architecture and Humanities.
- New Addition: A new sectional paper, Energy Science (XE-I), has been introduced under the Engineering Sciences (XE) category.
- Two-Paper Option: Candidates may opt for two papers, as per the officially permitted combinations.
Benefits of Qualifying GATE:
Candidates who qualify in GATE become eligible to seek admission, with possible financial assistance, to Master’s programs, Direct Doctoral programs, and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, and Humanities at IITs and other institutions supported by the Ministry of Education and other Government agencies. GATE scores are also considered by several institutions for admission to postgraduate programs without MoE scholarships. In addition, many leading Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) use GATE scores for recruitment purposes.
