BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY: Admission to M.Sc. Programmes in (i) Biotechnology and (ii) Molecular and Human Genetics – 2026-28

Banaras Hindu University is offering admission in (i) M.Sc. in Biotechnology (School of Biotechnology) and (ii) M.Sc. in Molecular and Human Genetics (Department of Molecular and Human Genetics) for the Academic Session 2026-28. The details of the admission process and criteria are given below:
i. Academic Eligibility Criteria for admission
1. M.Sc. in Biotechnology
Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education in Physical, Biological, Agricultural, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering/Technology, 4-year B.Sc. (Physician Assistant Course); OR MBBS/B.D.S. with at least 55% marks.
2. M.Sc. in Molecular and Human Genetics
Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education in Physical, Biological, Agricultural, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering/Technology, 4-year B.Sc. (Physician Assistant Course); OR MBBS/B.D.S. with at least 55% marks.
ii. Reservation Policy
Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (Non Creamy Layer (NCL)) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) (not covered under SC, ST & OBC) category is 15%, 7.5%, 27% and 10% respectively. As per the provisions of Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Act, 2016, 5% seats are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities on a horizontal basis, distributed within the respective categories.
iii. Number of Seats
M.Sc. in Biotechnology – Total 30 seats (UR-12, SC-5, ST-2, OBC-8, EWS-3, PwBD-1*)
M.Sc. in Molecular and Human Genetics – Total 30 seats (UR-12, SC-5, ST-2, OBC-8, EWS-3, PwBD-1*)
iv. Process for Admission
All candidates desirous of seeking admission in the M.Sc. programmes (i) Biotechnology and (ii) Molecular and Human Genetics should submit their application online at website: admission.bhu.ac.in/en
They must have appeared in the Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B)-2026, conducted by the Regional Centre for Biotechnology on behalf of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Admission will be strictly on the basis of the candidate’s score/rank in GAT-B 2026, as per the guidelines available at https://rcb.res.in/
Merit list shall be prepared category-wise based on the score in GAT-B 2026 against the available seats in each category. All admitted students will be awarded a stipend of Rs. 5,000/- per month by the DBT, Government of India.
v. Schedule
1. Registration for GAT-B 2026 – 15 June 2026 to 10 July 2026
2. Online Application Submission to BHU (Institute of Science) – 25 June 2026 to 10 July 2026 (11:59 PM)
*Dates are subject to change depending on declaration of GAT-B scores by RCB. Applicants are advised to keep checking the BHU admission website for updates.
vi. Application Fees
Applicants have to pay a one-time, non-refundable Registration Fee:
– Rs. 300/- for UR/OBC-NCL/EWS categories
– Rs. 150/- for SC/ST categories
